The Domino Effect

Dia 8 de 28

Creating a domino effect is a full-time job. It almost seems like an impossible task. You never get time off, sick days or vacation. In Acts 8, we see the church getting persecuted. Followers of Jesus had a tough decision to make: Do I continue to follow Jesus when times get tough, or do I hang up the jersey, walk away and retire from Christianity? Although the Christians did begin to scatter, run for their lives and find new places to live, the Bible says that everywhere they went they preached the word of God.

EVERYWHERE? Really? At the grocery store? To the waiter at the restaurant? To the other dads or moms while you wait for your kids to get out of practice? At your work? On your lunch break? At the park while your kids play on the playground? The early church didn’t take time off. They clocked in and never clocked out. Phillip went to the city of Samaria and taught about the love of Jesus there. And in Acts 8:8 it says, “So there was great joy in that city.”

I know wherever I go, I want joy to follow. As I look into the eyes of people every day, I see the absence of joy. When we live on mission every day, we aren’t just fulfilling a command given by Jesus, we are stirring up joy in the people we meet and places we go. We leave, but joy remains. We move on, but the people we were in contact with are still smiling. Are you willing to make a commitment to take Jesus wherever you go?
