[2020 Vision] Rest-Olutions and Resolutions: Wrap UpExemplo
Know What You Believe
Jude says, “Build yourselves up in your most holy faith” (Jude 1:20). This means know what you believe.
To have a secure walk with God, we must know what we believe. We can do this by reading the Bible. Spend time every day in the Scriptures. Just choose a book, like Matthew, and start reading. Read a chapter in the morning and another at night. You’ll quickly find yourself working through the Bible. There will be much you don’t understand, but a lot you do understand.
The Bible says God is the Creator. Why do I believe in creation? Well, the sun is 93 million miles away from Earth, and its surface is about 10,000°F. But somehow the earth is perfectly positioned so that we can live here on Earth. The Earth rotates at 1,000 miles an hour. If it slowed down by 100 miles an hour, the Earth would either freeze up or burn up. The Earth’s crust is like an apple’s skin—just a thin, thin skin. If this crust were 10 feet thicker, the oxygen we have now would not be in the atmosphere, and we could not breathe. The Moon is 240,000 miles away. If it were just 20% closer, the tides would cover the continents twice a day. Isn’t it perfectly placed? I believe in Creation because I can see it backed up in all these facts.
Why do I believe that Jesus is the Son of God? Because of the prophecies in the Old Testament. They said Jesus would be born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14), born in Abraham’s line (Genesis 22:18), of the tribe of Judah (Genesis 49:10), of the House of David (Isaiah 11:1), born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2). He would be rejected (Isaiah 53:1–4). His hands, feet, and side would be pierced (Psalm 22:16; Zechariah 12:10). The prophecies about Jesus being pierced were made before crucifixion was even invented. I could go on and on. The chance that one person would fulfill just eight prophecies is 1 in 100 million billion, but Jesus fulfilled many more prophecies. Jesus is the Son of God.
Why do I believe in the Resurrection? Well, the tomb is empty. Produce the body and Christianity’s over. Nobody could produce the body. Jesus also appeared after His resurrection to over 515 people (1 Corinthians 15:5–8). Hallucinations don't happen in groups. He was alive and He showed it.
Why do I believe in Jesus? Christ has changed my life. That's another reason I know what I believe. Get God’s Word into your heart and in your life. It makes a huge difference to know what you believe.
