Preparing for CourtshipExemplo

Preparing for Courtship

Dia 3 de 5

How is your relationship with the Lord?

I know I am coming in hot with day three but let’s be real with each other, pursuing the Lord is not easy. When I first met my courtship partner in undergrad, I was at a pivotal point in my relationship with the Lord. At the time, I just moved away from my family and lost something that I felt was a tangible home for me. I poured my heart out to God and recommitted my faith in Him. I was wholeheartedly pursuing the Lord but, I was not perfect by any means. I was imperfectly perfect and so thankful for the Father's loving hand that was over my life. I was surprised to meet the guy whom I pray is my future husband in undergrad but, just because we started our courtship then does not mean it was perfect. We both had to work on ourselves separately as well as together.

If you want to be in a healthy courtship, it is imperative that you have a strong relationship with the Lord. You have to make sure that you are on a journey of wholeness with the Lord first. You have to also check in with yourself. Are you comfortable and confident in who you are and are ready to commit to a relationship with pure intentions? Courtship is not selfish.  Courtship is sacrificial and nurturing. I mentioned on day one that courtship and dating are different and I was being honest about that. There is not a problem with dating as long as your intentions are pure and you are not putting yourself or the other person in a situation where they could intentionally be hurt.

My courtship partner purposefully and intentionally wanted to pursue that type of relationship with me and vice versa. We prayerfully came into this agreement together, we sought wise counsel from others before we took this journey together. Courtship is not the end all be all. One can be in a courtship with someone and it does not work out and that is perfectly fine. The point of this type of relationship is pursuing the Lord with someone who is also ready for a covenant agreement with the Lord. Courting Is beautiful because of the intentionality behind it. Courtship is rooted in the Fruit of the Spirit:

Galatians 5:22 "But the Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith.”

There is not a perfect way to pursue this type of relationship but what is truly important is that the two people within it are continually submitting the relationship to God. As I mentioned, a courtship is much more serious than dating because of the intention behind it is, the relationship will be one day sealed with a covenant agreement.
