Preparing for CourtshipExemplo
Man oh man, I know day three was heavy but I wanted to be raw and honest with you. I pray that thus far, you are enjoying this study. Today, I want to focus on being evenly yoked… yes, we have all heard this phrase over and over again but let’s unpack it.
What does it mean to be evenly yoked?
2 Corinthians 6:14-15 "Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?"
We see in 2 Corinthians 6 Paul encourages us to not be bound together with unbelievers. I believe being unevenly yoked is even deeper than that. To me, being unevenly yoked means being tied to someone who does not have similar values, beliefs, and ideals. When you are bounded with someone who at their foundation believes things that are completely different from you, then problems are sure to arise. It is okay to differ on certain things but, the foundational things are important to align on.
My courtship partner and I are not perfectly aligned on everything. We are also very young so, we are still growing and learning. We, however, are evenly yoked because at the core of who we are, we have similar beliefs, values, and ideals that are centered around our faith in the Lord.
This is one of the reasons my love for my courtship partner grew so deeply. He is a true man after God's own heart and is committed to pursuing the Lord not only with me but by himself.
It is so important to be with someone who not only talks the talk but also walks the walk. We strive to allow our lives to be a living example of Christ and, I pray you are striving to holistically pursue the Lord as well.
How are you pursuing the Lord? How healthy is your relationship with your partner? Use this time to write down and think through your relationship. Are you evenly yoked with your partner? Are you in a space where you are comfortable and confident in yourself?
