Service: An Unsung Gift of God

Day 1: Service is a Gift of God

Many of us might be tempted to think of service as being beneath us. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure we all appreciate good service. But we might tend to think of it as something someone else does for us, rather than something we do for others.

We prefer to think of ourselves as leaders rather than servants. Leaders lead the way. Servants follow after and pick up the pieces.

Service is something people in shops and restaurants might do for us. But, selfishly we would rather be served than to be the servant. As Paul says in Acts, though, 'it's more blessed to give than to receive.' Here in Romans 12, we’re told not just to serve with our hands, but to offer our everything to the One who gave everything to us.

Although we're all expected to give our all to our Saviour, how each of us does that individually is going to look different according to our giftings. Service is a specific gift of God that some people are blessed with.

'Dear Lord, thank You for those who gladly serve us in love. May we go and do likewise, for Your honour and praise, amen.'

Do you see yourself as more of a leader or a servant?

Service: An Unsung Gift of God

We all love receiving good service, but it's far less popular for us to be the servant. This plan reveals how we should all serve as God has called us to. Our motivation for service is the fact that God has served us with salvation. Having done that, it's not too much for Him to ask us to serve Him, and one another.
