Fight for Us: Win Back the Marriage God Intends for YouExemplo
In the pit of despair, we tend to self-isolate. We often want to go through the pain, the consequences of our sins, alone. We may not be able to escape the earthly consequences of our sins, but Jesus has already paid for our heavenly consequences. There’s nothing to strive for; we must only accept his gift, acknowledge it, and receive it into our lives. Nothing we can do, now or ever, will compare to the love Jesus demonstrated for us by giving his life. What is the will of God? That we should live and love our spouses in a way that properly reflects the love he showed us.
In Philippians 3:14, one Greek transliteration of the phrase “to press” means “to pursue.” It is impossible to run in two directions at one time. We cannot pursue what is ahead while still holding on to the past. As we pursue a relationship with God, we will be drawn to pursue each other. Whatever may be holding us back from these pursuits must be abandoned. In fact, God’s Word promises that as we draw near to him, he will draw near to us. But to draw near to each other, we need mutual effort, consistency, and yes, patience. These are the keys to experiencing relationship rewards. But without pursuit, the rewards remain unclaimed.
The promises of God are perfect, but we must trust him enough to continue walking through the storm, to continue discovering our purpose through the pain. He will lead us!
The rewards we see as part of our relationship with God mirror the rewards and blessings we receive as a married couple who honor God with our lives. Marriage is meant to be a mirror of how God loves his bride, the church. For a better understanding of this, look at what happened in the garden of Eden, the scene of the most heinous crime in the history of humanity. Satan deceived Eve, and in turn, Eve deceived Adam, and creation was compromised. But now, through his Son, we have an all-access pass to the throne of God, to the kingdom of God, to a marriage that honors God and leaves a godly legacy for our children.
Prayer
Father, thank you for creating marriage as a way to help us understand how you love us. Thank you also for giving us access to you and your kingdom. Amen.
