Parents and Kids Daily Devotional "First Things First"

Dia 8 de 31

What you want others to do unto you, do it first! That’s pretty much what today’s verse means. If you want others to treat you well, treat them well first. If you want others to respect you, respect them first.

How do we get started? Who can I apply this principle to? Arthur Ashe was the first African-American tennis player to ever win the US Open and Wimbledon. He said, “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”

So, start from the closest circle in your lives, namely family, friends, people whom we meet every day. Then widen the circle. This principle is also written in Acts 1:8. Jesus commanded us to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, and all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the world. Jerusalem is our family. Judea and Samaria are the people or the communities around us.

When we practice this principle in our daily lives, we will begin to rise and be the light of God, both at home – among our families, at school, at work, in church, and everywhere God puts us.

Devotion for Parents
From today's devotion, to whom do you think we should first practice God's Word?

Yes, to our spouse and children. They are the God-given closest people in our lives.

The question is, have we done that? Do we put more importance on the people out there than our closest ones?

Answer these questions truthfully and start putting into practice what the Word of God says to you today.

Devotion for Kids
“Mom, he mocks me.”

“Dad, she disturbs me.”

“Mom, why does my friend treat me so bad?”

How often do you say those words? We focus on what others do unto us than the other way around.

From now on, can we say this:

“Have I been nice to my brother”

“Have I been caring to my sister?

“Have I been a good friend to my classmates?”

Remember, do unto others what you want others to do unto you. Right?

Family Devotion Time
Have a heart-to-heart conversation with your family.

There might be heartaches or disappointments hiding under the surface.

Forgive each other and close in prayer.
