Parents and Kids Daily Devotional "This Is Living"

I wondered how it would have felt to live during Jesus’ time on earth, to witness His amazing miracles first hand? Wow! It must have been amazing! But when I remember the story of the cross, I question myself. If I had been there, which side would I have been on – the side of the believers, or the side of the crowd who shouted, “Crucify Him!”?

I am sure that in the midst of the crowd who shouted, “Crucify Him!”, there were people who had witnessed His miracles taking place. How many of them were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” when Jesus entered Jerusalem, then just as quickly changed sides and condemned Him to the cross? Even Judas Iscariot, one of Jesus’ disciples who was always with Jesus in His ministry, chose to betray Him.

Those people, who changed sides, knew of Jesus, but never knew Him personally. They loved to be by His side when everything was good. But when the tide turned, they avoided Jesus for the sake of personal comfort.

On this day, let us take a moment to reflect and ask this question: how deep do I know and love Jesus? Which one do I treasure more – Jesus Himself, or His blessings and miracles? Do we walk with Him faithfully in good times and in bad? Or do we leave Jesus when things turn bad and when we are given a better option?

There will be times when you feel like giving up and leaving Jesus. However, remember this: Jesus has been so faithful that He was willing to die to redeem us from our sins.

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.

Hebrew 10:23 (NIV)

What values do we need to hold? During this month we will invite the children to learn about this and teach them the values of truth that they should have in their lives.
