The Book Of Numbers | A Journey Toward Human Freedom Under God's AuthorityExemplo
"The Glory Equation"
In Chapter 7 of the book of Numbers comes a turning point for Israel. They were now to act upon and in response to the truths of all that had transpired, and were to obediently submit themselves as a people under God’s leadership and rule.
In a gigantic display and unified rally, God brings all of his people before the courts of the temple in order to call all the people to follow in the way of holiness. In chapter 7:1 we see the painstaking care that Moses takes in this endeavor to offer this opportunity to the people. It says that this day arrived only after Moses had consecrated and anointed all the furnishings, even down to the smallest utensil. In Numbers chapter 7:12-88 the people began to follow the leadership’s example in seeking the glory of the Lord.
This chapter brings everyone to the center of the encampment—don’t merely read it, picture it!!! Picture all the people! The encampment points to the gospel; the priesthood point to the gospel; the Leper and Nazarite point toward what it is to live apart or within the truth of the gospel. The people respond, and they all move toward the center!
This is the glory equation. What’s at the center? It’s the equation that all of mankind has to answer. If each person’s life is a giant equal sign, the question must be asked “what does a person want their life to add up to?” A person can decide to add in such a way that can fill a bank account, build an empire, fatten their tummy, serve to beautify the flesh, or do the countless things available to them that puts what one possesses or does at the center.
The tent of meeting, the presence of God, the fame and name of God is the center here in Numbers. People came from whatever point they are at in life, and from wherever placement within the encampment in which they lived to bring their due to the Lord. Some had only to walk a few steps. Some were far off from the tent of meeting and may have walked miles to get there. Whether their lives were close to the glory, or far from the glory, their choice to choose was all the same.
Who or what do you choose to bring glory to today?
