Food Is Not The Enemy: Overcoming Food StrugglesExemplo
This Means War: The Battle for Satisfaction
If food really is a good gift from God, why has it become such a pain point for so many of us?
The short answer is that we have been fooled into seeking lasting comfort and fulfillment in temporal pleasures that will never satisfy. Like any good gift, our appetites have been targeted by our enemy in an effort to thwart God’s good plan. Since the serpent tricked Eve into eating the forbidden fruit in the garden, Satan’s sole purpose has been to keep us running away from God.
Our society’s obsession with food and dieting is not a random phenomenon. Satan will use whatever tool he can to distract people from seeking satisfaction in God, and if money, sex, or power don’t hold any sway over you, then french fries or skinny chocolate lattes just might.
Friends, this battle we’re fighting to break free from food fixation is not as simple as throwing out the junk food or letting go of our obsessive food rules. While those steps may be needed, we cannot ignore the role our souls and spirits play in this battle for satisfaction.
At its core, this is a spiritual battle and it will require us to put on our spiritual armor. That doesn’t mean we ignore common-sense nutrition and exercise guidelines, but it does mean that we need to fight mind, body, soul, and spirit to satisfy our hunger for God with God Himself.
And Jesus promises that when we find our strength in His mighty power, we will not only stand against the devil’s schemes but we will discover the life He came to give us … The Full Life.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for revealing to me in Your Word the truth about this spiritual battle so that I will recognize the enemy’s schemes. By myself, I am weak, but You have given me divine power to demolish strongholds. Help me to resist the devil and find my satisfaction in You alone. Awaken in me a hunger for You, and satisfy me with Yourself. Amen.
