Let's Talk Jesus!

‘Why should I start now?’

Remember the Titanic? To someone who is drowning, the question is both about the kind of life saving equipment and the urgency of it reaching them soon! If you’re wondering why you should bother to start now with sharing Jesus, here are three perspectives to ponder:

  1. Your salvation is an indicator that God counts you so precious that He pours into you His power through the Holy Spirit. This ‘auto-empowerment’ is supernatural fuel for you to be an asset to His people. If God didn’t care about you or them, why would He put something so powerful inside you?
  2. Head over to Google Earth or if it suits you better, close your eyes and scan through the world map from end to end. What do you see? Is there a country, a state, a city, an island or even a person that catches your attention? Why did we go all over the world to get here? Luke 19:9 says, ‘Today, salvation has come to this house.’ ‘This house’ could be your classroom, office, coffeeshop, dining room or maybe someone waiting for the light to change at a pedestrian crossing. For those struggling with questions of anxiety, fear, depression, suicide, gender confusion, broken homes – the list is endless – you have been uniquely positioned in their lives as one who holds the solution. You, not your parents, sibling, spouse or partner. Stop delegating responsibility. Consider whether procrastination or holding back is perhaps a form of selfishness camouflaged in fear and pride.
  3. Romans 8:19 speaks of the revelation of the sons of God. When you and I begin to obey and demonstrate the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20, we own our identity as children of God in doing one of the very first things that Jesus did – which was to point people back to the Father. The choice is yours – to walk in the fullness of your identity or live half a life.

Prayer: God, I thank you for choosing me to be a vessel for Your Spirit. I set aside thoughts and notions that tell me that I will look silly if I speak about You. I acknowledge that I have been sitting on the starting block for a while now but I am now willing to carry the Gospel to those around me. Take my doubt, my fear of losing long term friends and turn it into Your joy and fruitful relationships in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen!

Let's Talk Jesus!

Remember that first encounter with Christ and the burning passion to talk about Him? Eventually that fire became an ember. What happened? ‘I talk about Jesus, but is it convincing enough?’ ‘They don’t want to open up to me.’ While these questions and fears are real, it is important to know what the Word of God has to say. This 5-day devotional is for those wondering how and where to start sharing Jesus.
