Being With God Together: Plan for Married CouplesExemplo
Being Expectant Together
Some of the most bonding times in my marriage have centered around expecting great things. When we were pregnant and expecting our children to be born, we bonded over what being parents would be like, what our children would be like, and how we would care for them. When we bought a house, we expectantly waited for closing day and planned all the fun things we would do to our house and in our home once it was officially ours. When we were preparing to start a brand new church, we expected God to move and excitedly (and anxiously!) awaited to see what God would build as we took faithful steps.
You can commune with God together by expecting Him together. As Jesus told us in John 5:17, our Father in heaven is still working. He is always working. The Bible tells us in Mark 11:24 that we will receive what we pray and ask for.
We can expect God to move because He says He will.
As a couple, as you pray together, start expecting God to move. Watch and pay attention to how he answers your prayers even if he doesn’t always answer them the way you’d expect.
Know and expect Him to be sovereign over all the details of your life and start verbalizing this to each other. Tell each other how you saw God move. Share the big and small details of your life and try to discern where God is moving and what he is doing. Doing this together will build your spiritual intimacy and your faith.
Questions to discuss today as you expect God together:
- What can you pray for this week? How can you expect God to move in that?
- What small details in your life can you credit to God? What is He doing in those small details?
- If you’ve been praying for something together and God hasn’t answered it like you expected, ask God: What are you doing in this area? What are you doing in us in the process?
- Ask God: How are you moving and working in our hearts specifically? How are you moving and working in our marriage? How are you moving and working through us as we minister to others?
