Grieving a Failed RelationshipExemplo

Grieving a Failed Relationship

Dia 3 de 4

Matthew 28:20 says, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

In the first two days, we focused on when someone walks away from us, but what if you chose to walk away? What if you realized you must distance yourself from someone you love very much? Maybe you left an abusive relationship or a friendship that was causing you to be a version of yourself you no longer recognized. Sometimes obedience means walking away from a relationship that is hurting you and effecting your relationship with God. A question I had to ask myself was, can I still be obedient to God and still have this person so intertwined in my life? As much as I tried for the answer to be yes, at the end of the day, it was clear I could not continue to grow in my relationship with God if I kept spending so much time with this person.

I know there may be moments you feel guilty or misunderstood, but if your decision helped protect you and who you want to be, you have nothing to be ashamed of. We live in a fallen world, which means we will have to make tough, heartbreaking decisions, but as the above scripture says, Jesus is with us to the very end of the age. A good friend is out there for you, who is always waiting to hear from you, never gets sick of you, loves you despite your imperfections, and knows your deepest sins but still sees you as his child.

Prayer: God, thank you for being our ultimate comforter and provider. We pray to remember to talk to you and cry to you when we feel lonely. We are created for others, but we most importantly created to spend time with you. We thank you for being a God who designed friendship; amen.

Grieving a Failed Relationship

Losing a friend or romantic partner can be devastating, especially when they choose to walk away from the relationship or you make the difficult decision to set a boundary. Either way, we are experiencing significant loss and grieving what we thought could be forever. In scripture, we are reminded of how much God cares for us, and despite the disappointment, we will experience in this life, our heavenly father is always near to us.
