IN the LIGHT - Learning to Live in the LightExemplo
DAY 5: LIVING IN THE LIGHT
Living in the light is a daily practice for followers of Jesus. The Bible has been encouraging us to live in the light since the Old Testament when the prophet Isaiah wrote, “Arise, Jerusalem! Let your light shine for all to see. For the glory of the Lord rises to shine on you. Darkness as black as night covers the nations of the earth, but the glory of the Lord rises and appears over you.”
John, described as the disciple Jesus loved, wrote about living in the light in 1 John 1:5-9 (NLT) when he wrote about a message he heard straight from Jesus saying, “God is light, and there is no darkness in Him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”
Living in the light doesn’t mean we are perfect or without sin — it simply means we are standing close enough to the light (Jesus) that we will notice when darkness begins to shadow over parts of our hearts and lives. Luke 11:34-35 (NLT) describes it this by saying, “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when it is unhealthy, your body is filled with darkness. Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness.”
Stand close to the light and let 1 Peter Chapter 2 be your prayer today: “So, get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech... For you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”
