Applying God's Word in Our Lives
By Noah C
In our passage today Jesus begins teaching by the lakeshore to a large crowd. While teaching Jesus used many parables. Some people couldn’t understand what the parables meant.
After low a key roasting of the disciples, Jesus explains that parables help others comprehend God's word by illustrating truth with everyday examples that they understand.
The parable of the farmer scattering seeds is all about how we apply God's word to mature and become more like Jesus. Here’s what I think Jesus is asking us through his seed sowing parable:
Do we listen in youth group, only to forget once we go home? (Mark 4:4)
Do we apply what we learn in youth group, but allow peer pressure to turn us back to our old ways? (Mark 4:5-6)
Do we listen in youth group but let worldly desires such as popularity or money take control of our lives? (Mark 4: 7)
Or do we listen in youth group and apply God's Word in our lives to show the world who God is?
(Mark 4:8)
Jesus continues to explain in the Parable of the Lamp. We as a lamp shouldn’t hide our love for God. Instead, we should allow the world to see how we live like Jesus.
The Parable of the Growing Seed and the Mustard Seed show that when we are diligent and continue to apply God's Word in our lives, our relationship with Him grows and people will see the joy in our lives and want to know why.
Which seed are you? How do you apply God's Word? Do you aim to be persistent and fruitful in your faith like the good soil Jesus encourages you to be?
