The idea, or nudge to write this devotional originated from an old-time preacher who has since passed. He was a long-time family friend and in my opinion one of the GREATEST to teach on the power of your mouth. His name is Charles Capps, and I would recommend you CONSUME everything he has.
The goal of this devotional is for you to come away with SUPERNATURAL AWARENESS regarding your mouth so that you can BUILD the world God designed for you.
Get ready to build your faith. Get ready to build your world. Get ready to UNLEASH your mouth for good.

Day 1: The Foundation of Creation

Title: Speaking Life into Existence

Key Scripture: Mark 11:23 - "Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them."

Let’s begin with an old Cherokee story.

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.

One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, lack, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”

He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, gentleness, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Jesus says it like this, “Out of the abundance of your heart (mind, will, and emotions) your mouth speaks.”

Your life will rise or fall to the level of the words you speak. What you say matters, even when you don’t think it does.

Pastor Robert Morris says it like this, “Your belief determines your behavior.”

Over the next couple of days, I pray for the Lord to translate these words into whispers for your hearts and minds. I’m asking Him to give you a nudge and enlighten your eyes (bring awareness) to the hope to which He has called you.

You are created in God’s likeness and image; because of that likeness, I want to challenge you in the area of your mouth.

Matthew 12 speaks of you and I, taking into account every idle word. In other words, everything that comes out of our mouth is a BIG DEAL.

It’s such a big deal that when God created this world, He SPOKE it. He didn’t mix it up in a blender. He didn’t draw it up on a computer. HE - SPOKE - IT.

The Lord SPOKE this world into existence. Jesus SPOKE, and people were healed, and storms were muted. If the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead (and gave him the power to heal people and calm storms) lives in us, can you see WHY your mouth is so important?

When Jesus saw the fig tree was not bearing fruit, He spoke against it, AND that was the end of it. (Mark 11:14-21). That fig tree’s existence was GAME OVER. Jesus demonstrated that faith, as small as a mustard seed, can move mountains.

What’s interesting about mustard seeds is that they cannot be cross-pollinated.

In other words, mustard seeds can only be mustard seeds. You can’t create mustard strawberries (which would be gross) or mustard cucumbers.

They are the tiniest of seeds, and they bring forth great fruit. Their ROI is INCREDIBLE, and so is your FAITH.

When your faith is pure (and not mixed with doubt), even though it’s small, it will produce great things.

I want to pause here for a moment and put a challenge YOUR WAY.

What if, over the next five days, you asked the Lord to show you what needs to change in your mouth?

What is the life you believe the Lord has for you? Does your mouth match that vision?

What do you need to start saying with your mouth today? How will you keep yourself accountable?

This passage we read today in Mark 11 highlights Jesus speaking to a fig tree and condemning it. Why did Jesus condemn the fig tree?

The fig tree was out of order in how it was created. It was created to GROW leaves and fruit at the same time. It did not bear fruit therefore, Jesus cursed it with his mouth.

Do you see any similarities between this fig tree and your life? Is there anything out of order in what you say versus what you do?

What needs to happen? What needs to be corrected?

What is the Holy Spirit speaking to you right now?

Thought-Stirring Questions:

  • What negative confessions have you been holding onto that need to be overturned?
  • How can you actively start reshaping your world through your words starting today?

Daily Confession:

"Today, I embrace the power of my words, believing fully in their divine force as I speak life into my surroundings and circumstances."
