GETTING THROUGH THE SATURDAY
Saturdays are really wonderful days. Sleeping in, good food, relaxing, hobbies, going on excursions, spending time with friends and family. Who does not love these days on which you do not have to work and you can simply do what you feel like doing?
However, during Lent Saturday is the worst day. It stands for the time between Jesus’ death and resurrection.
On Friday around 3 pm Jesus dies on the cross on Golgotha. Upon Joseph of Arimathea’s request, Jesus’ body was put in the grave on the same day. Saturday is bleak and hopeless. Death has triumphed, evil reigns and the dark powers triumph. All that remains for Jesus’ friends is sadness, disappointment and despair.
Sometimes the victory of God’s love is not immediate, but takes time. In your life, there are also Saturdays like these in which Jesus’ promises over your life have not yet come to be. In such phases your trust, patience and perseverance are called upon. I’m sorry that it can’t be easier.
ACTION STEP:
In what area of your life are you experiencing a dark Saturday at the moment? Hold on to God’s promises over your life, even though you are in the midst of an unfortunate situation. Write down a few sentences from Romans 8:31-39 and read through these promises over and over again today.

About this Plan

For many people Easter is merely a nice spring festival. However, the origin of Easter is powerful and relevant for all people. During this time, we celebrate that Jesus died and resurrected for us. By doing this, something incredible happened. In this reading plan we want to engage ourselves with the last 24 hours in the life of Jesus. Jesus’ death on the cross is not the end, but the beginning of something totally new. For each one of us. – “Because I live, you also will live.” John 14:19
