Your RESET Power

Last time, we talked about how Jesus gives us a new identity based not on our record but on his. This identity is declared over us; it’s not something we have to earn (or ever could!). 

Our identity is declared over us by Jesus, and our identity is empowered in us by the Holy Spirit. 

Jesus said, “It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you” (John 16:7).

Given the choice, I bet most of us would choose to walk with Jesus. But according to Jesus, most of us don’t realize what we’re missing!

The Holy Spirit is given many names in Scripture, including “the Advocate,” “the Comforter,” and “the Helper.” He is the very Spirit of God, working to produce new life in us. Without the Holy Spirit, we’re left to try to follow God on our own. But with the Spirit, we’re empowered to follow Jesus like we never could before. 

What’s the result of us trying to follow God based only on our own efforts? Why is it better to have the Holy Spirit than to have Jesus? What do the names of the Holy Spirit teach us about how He helps us?
