Stewarding God's Kingdom Sample
Lifting up the Poor
Every year the people of Hillé Bar village in Chad face a hunger gap. It starts when their food supplies run out, and ends, months later, when a new harvest is ready. Can you imagine being hungry for months on end?
God is not content with the brokenness of this world—it’s why He sent Jesus here. It bothers Him to see the gap widening between the rich and the poor. He never intended that some would starve while others thrived; however, this is happening everyday. And it doesn’t align with His kingdom principles.
If He is not content, how can we be?
Scripture makes it clear that Jesus is deeply concerned for the poor: “I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.”
The poor play a significant role in revealing God’s purposes on earth. When we understand this, and when our hearts begin to align with His, we receive the keys to unlock His kingdom.
His desire is for the church to be an answer to the world’s problems. He has equipped the church to act as His hands and feet, to bring about that change on the earth.
Reflection
We learn important lessons through the poor. The conditions they live in allow them to know God as their strength and see His power at work in their lives. And people who live under God’s strength and power are truly the rich ones.
What prevents you from experiencing God in this way?
Prayer
Dear Lord, we pray our hearts would desire the same things you desire.
We also pray for those who are hungry right now, those who are struggling to find enough to feed their families. We pray that you would stir people across the world to know your heart for the poor and to act in your name to end their suffering. Amen.
Action
