Good To Me 

The song Good to Me is a prayer of reflection, desire, longing, thankfulness, and forgiveness. It is based off of Psalm 119:68: 68, “You are good and do only good; teach me your decrees.” Here are the lyrics: 

Peace surround me in Your presence now

May rivers of grace wash over me 

Your mercies are new every morning like dew upon the grass 

And all of the troubles I see in Your time will pass 

You are good to me You are good to me 

And may I dear Father live near the greatest of Shepherds

Hearing His voice to follow His call

May all weeds that grow in my soul be cut at the root

And change me so I fully know that life is in You 

You are good to me You are good to me 

Christian, the truth of the matter is that every good thing we have is from God. Our salvation, our righteousness, our free access to the Father through Christ. These are all are from His hand. Every awestruck moment, every belly laugh, every delicious bite of food, every moment of recognized deepening love, every tiny baby finger wrapped around yours, every meaningful conversation, every moment of peace is from Jesus. 

In this world, however, we will have trouble. Jesus told us as much in Matthew 6:34. Troubles will always be with us and will always distract us. But, have you taken the time to realize His overwhelming goodness in your life? Have you come to KNOW HIM as the source of all good? Beyond the gifts and mercies given, Christ is the treasure. He is our gifted goodness, and He is the source of all good. 

There are many things in our lives that fight for the heart of our soul. It’s like weeds wrapped around the beautifully budding flower. But, as children of God, we know that our life and true goodness comes in and from Christ alone. 

This week, take time to notice the good things you have in your life. Perhaps it’s a close friend, or spouse, or the love of a child or parent? Maybe it’s a meaningful job, or an unexpected sunny day? Maybe it’s the perfect bite, or the amazingly moving song? No matter what it is, this is a small picture of Gods goodness in your life. They are all reflections of His kindness and glory and person as the giver of Good. 

Recognize this, and take time to thank Him for being the God who delights in doing you good.
