Your Love Remains

The song Your Love Remains talks about the concrete love of God. It is a particularly personal song to me. It was originally written in 2009 while I was working through a season of depression and anxiety. I read Psalm 103:17 "But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him." This verse propelled me straight to; 

Romans 8:38-39 

38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Truth is that there is nothing that can ever separate me from God's love, and that His love remains forever (no matter my circumstances) felt like medicine to my sick heart. I grabbed my guitar and wrote the song in less than hour while sitting on my back porch.

Over time, the song became very special to me, to our church, and to my family. In 2012, my mother passed away quickly and suddenly. Because it was her favorite song, I played it at her funeral. I never wanted to play it again. 

When thinking through our latest album, my band mentioned that we should record "Your Love Remains". I had not sung or played the song since my mother's funeral. Needless to say, the weight of the song (and the importance of the words) became even more poignant once we decided to record it. New life was breathed into the arrangement and a new musical atmosphere surrounding it. So much so, we decided to name the entire album "Your Love Remains". 

For you, Christian, here are my simple questions: “Are you allowing the concrete, never-ending, never-failing, never-faltering love of God to encourage you regularly? Are you returning daily, maybe even “moment by moment”, to the immovable rock of God's love? 

No matter where you are, or where you have been, God’s love for you remains. No matter what the accuser of lies says to you, your flesh screams at you, or this world advertises to you — God’s love remains. 

It's our prayer that the truth of God's word (found in this song) will meet you and encourage you wherever you are today.
