DAY 9 OF 15

There is no such thing as a perfect identity. If we always try to be someone that others will like, we’ll end up not having peace in our lives. To have peace in our lives, we must listen to God and get comfortable being who He wants us to be. We’re meant to rely on Him, to know His love for us, and trust that God shows us our identity.

It’s vital to discover our happiness on God – pursuing fulfillment in him rather than trying to find that in other people.  While God should always be our #1 priority, it’s important that we not completely lose sight of how important other people are to us.  Part of living a godly life is having a group of friends who support us in our relationship with Him.

No matter what stage of life you’re in you have people you depend on; people you open up to about everything; people who always have your back, who are willing to say hard things to you, and whose opinions you hold up just a little higher than everyone else’s.  I want to challenge you to think about those friends for a minute.  What makes them such good friends?  What are the things they value?  What causes them to live their lives the way they do?  Are they trying to be a good person, be a good friend, or is there something greater that’s motivating them?

Being a part of a godly community is vital in not forgetting that who we are is defined by God and not others.  You’ve probably heard the phrase, “You become what you’re around”.  It’s so true!  You tend to take on the personality traits of your friends, even their values, because they matter to you.  That’s why it’s so important to surround yourself with people who love God and love people the way you hope to as well.

Which of your friends and family help support you in your relationship with Christ? How can you be that kind of support in the lives of others?
