DAY 4 OF 9

Let Go Of Your Idols

After Gideon had presented an offering to God, the next command God gave him was to destroy the altar his father built to Baal and build an altar to God at the same place. This shows that for us to be Chosen, we need to let go of our idols, dethrone them and give God the place they once occupied. This is a private victory we need to experience before our calling can become public. God must be Lord of our private life before He can use us publicly.

Many people who have received great callings from God have not been able to fulfil their purpose because they had not dealt with the idols in their private lives. An example of this is Saul – the first king of Israel. He did not allow God to deal with his self-consciousness and need to be accepted by others. As a result, the idols in his heart led to him being rejected by God and the end of his reign.

God will not use you if you do not let go of your idols. But letting go of your idols will always lead to a backlash from those around you. Some will feel threatened and judged by the decision you have made and will seek to persecute you. Nevertheless, you must make up your mind to stay the course and trust God to deal with the consequences of your obedience to Him – just as Gideon did.

About this Plan

From called to CHOSEN

I have always wondered what Jesus meant by many are called, and a few are Chosen until I began to learn through the story of Gideon. In this 9 days Devotional Plan (based on the book, “And they shall be called the Sons of God”), we will learn the difference between being called and being Chosen. We will also learn how to transition from called to Chosen.
