Devotional: The Grace of Our Father
God’s grace is His unmerited or undeserved favour. Some say it is God’s divine enablement to do what He has called us to do. It is almost like the fuel in your tank! It cannot be earned, bought or won by us. God does not have an expectation of any returns when He gives us something (1 Peter 5:10, Nehemiah 9:17, Ephesians 2:8-9). Mercy covers our sins, while grace covers our weaknesses (2 Corinthians 12:9-10, Hebrews 4:16). God chooses the most unlikely vessels so that all glory will go to Him in the end. Honestly, I would not have chosen the twelve disciples that Jesus chose (1 Peter 4:10, 1 Corinthians 15:10).
We fall from grace when we try to live by the law or a set of rules. Many people believe “once saved, always saved,” but this is not the truth. We can lose our salvation when we turn our backs on God (Galatians 5:4). Also read Hebrews 6:4-6. Remember that our Father will never turn His back on us.
Reflective question:
- In what kind of environment did you grow up? Were you encouraged, built up, complimented and celebrated for who you are? Or did people only criticize and focus on your shortcomings? Explain.
