Devotional: The Judgement and Wrath of Our Father
God’s wrath is His anger towards all injustice and unrighteousness in the world. It is not directed towards people, as our human emotions often are (Romans 1:18, Psalm 7:11, Romans 2:5). God hates all sin because of His holiness. God’s anger is not a malicious retaliation against the sinner, but rather an act against evil and unrighteousness. The wrath of God is a reflection of His divine character. He loves the sinner, but hates the sin (Hosea 7:2, Romans 14:10-12, Matthew 13:47-50, 2 Corinthians 5:11).
Reflective questions:
- Read Galatians 5:19-21, which speaks about works that can keep us out of the Kingdom. Do you identify with any of these things? Bring them before God and ask for His forgiveness.
- Read Matthew 25: 15-23. What are the talents that God has given you?
- Why do you think we do not talk about eternity and God’s judgement often enough? Explain.
