Who Is JesusSample
Jesus The Light
People who are sincerely seeking the light in the shadows, there is hope, you will find the light. He has revealed himself. If you have been dwelling in the shadow of death, Jesus has revealed himself as the great light.
Why is it then that people don’t see the light? ‘God reveals only so much of his light so that those who truly seek him will find him. And those who do not want to seek him will not find him.’ Most often people in the dark seek light. When electricity goes off we look for a candle. When evening approaches lamps are lit. God promises us that this inherent desire for the light, although you might be in the dark for now, will be fulfilled.
Light can be understood in many ways. Scientifically light is understood as both particle and wave. Then, we have light that helps us see things. Then there is another light, a mystical version of light; light that brings insight to your mind and heart. Finally, we are introduced to Christ who reveals himself as the Light - that is one other meaning of the word Logos. Jesus says, “I am the light of the world.”
Jesus offers us a relationship with light. Light is not impersonal anymore; it has become personal. While our darkness, experiences, and situations are personal, God’s solution is also personal, Jesus a person is the light.
When his light enters us it does a couple of things to us. In verse 17 it says “repent.” The word repent brings to our mind judgement. But repent is nothing judgemental. It is like the word danger. When you scream danger no one accuses you of being judgemental. “Repent” is precisely that, a concerned cry for your well-being.
So the light enters us and throws light on the dark bits of our life that need to be weeded out. But because Jesus’ light is more than an impersonal version of the light, he is also love, hence he is personal and relational. So just when we begin to feel ashamed, because the light has uncovered all the filth, he embraces us with his love.
May his loving light dawn on you today!
