Who Is Jesus

DAY 7 OF 8

Jesus The Teacher

Today Jesus is revealed as a teacher. He teaches us his way so that we may walk in his path. He is a judge who brings peace.

Verse 3 begins with a corporate walk up the highest mountain. It takes intense effort to walk up the highest mountain. The lazy will not attempt this pilgrimage. They have become lethargic. They are not bad people; they are neither good. They are just lethargic.

An active sinner is better off, at least he believes in something, albeit wrong. Take for instance St. Paul, a killer, who converted and with the same intensity, transformed the western world. St. Augustine, an immoral play boy, converted and with the same intensity, pursued holiness. Today, let’s shrug off lethargy and walk up the mountain.

Undertaking this trek has innumerable benefits. The main benefit is that you have the company of Jesus as your guide. When you walk up a mountain you have time to reflect, help others along the way, and burn some fat! While you reflect on your life Jesus will gently bring up the shameful and praiseworthy aspects of your life. Together with him you will also have the opportunity to help others who are struggling or need your company. And then, most importantly, you will burn fat; Jesus will begin the process of removing the unnecessary aspects of your life.

What do we find up that mountain? We find what every person who has walked up a mountain finds: peace and a beautiful view.

When we began the journey we walked up expectantly. However, it is highly possible that along the way we might have become disgruntled by the behavior of many people. Added to that we might also complain of the many struggles and barriers we faced along the way. We may have accumulated innumerable complaints. But then the moment we reach the top and have a glimpse of the view, all our complaints are silenced and we are just awed! That view in our spiritual journey is Jesus. Our guide will reveal his true glory to us and we will revel in that.

Billy Graham was once asked what will he do when he arrives at heaven. Billy Graham said he will jump on the lap of Jesus and go to sleep, just like his dog! I guess that is what we will all do when we see Jesus. We will kneel, trip and fall face down, and then jump on his lap and sleep.
