When Heaven Is Silent
Words create relationship. Silence kills relationship. If someone’s really angry with us, they stop talking to us. And that silence can be deeply hurtful and frightening.
God is our creator and life-giver. His word sustains our life. These verses are the most terrifying words of the whole book of Amos. God has become so frustrated with His people, He stops talking to them. And His silence brings death.
This is why we need Jesus. Jesus is God’s word of life (John 1:4). To hear Him is eternal, divine life; to ignore Him is eternal death.
Think of a New Testament command which you find really uncomfortable and wish wasn’t there. E.g.: Matthew 5:10-12; 21-26; 27-30; Ephesians 4:29-32; 5:3-6; 1 Peter 3:9. How can you see it as good and life-giving, instead of restrictive?

About this Plan

Read through the book of Amos, which highlights the faithlessness, stubbornness and oppressiveness of God’s chosen people. In the end, take encouragement from God’s promise of future restoration for his people.
