Blessed Are The Poor
Placing your faith in Jesus changes everything. God’s Kingdom is unlike any earthy kingdom. In most kingdoms there is a hierarchy with the strong and successful at the top and the weak and poor at the bottom - similar to the animal kingdom where it’s survival of the fittest. Things work very differently in God’s Kingdom. Here, you don’t have to have material possessions to be rich. You don’t have to be popular to have friends. You don’t have to feel great about yourself to have confidence. And most importantly, you don’t have to be perfect to be loved and accepted by God. Jesus came for the poor, the outcast, the lonely, and the broken sinners.
In a section of scripture known as the beatitudes in Matthew 5: 3-12, Jesus tells us that we are blessed when we are poor, when we are in mourning, when we are persecuted, and when we are falsely accused. The reason we are blessed in these situations is because these are the very situations that make us need and cry out for Jesus. And when we cry out for Jesus, He hears us and He gives us Himself. He meets us right where we’re at and fulfill our deepest needs.
The chorus of this song simply says, “You’re all we need”
We have found this to be profoundly true in our journeys of faith. Will you allow Jesus to be all you need today?
Action Steps:
Confess to the Lord all of your areas of weakness and brokenness. Express your needs to Him. Spend time worshiping Him and meditate on the truth that all your needs can be met in Jesus.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you that I can come to you with all my junk and that you accept me just as I am. Thank you that I am blessed today because I have you in my life. I realize that my right standing with you is not because of my own goodness but because of Jesus’ goodness. Help me to totally depend on you for everything and seek you above everything else.
