Up For Debate Sample
As we talk about respect over the next couple of day, let’s get on the same page. We show others respect when we treat them the way we want to be treated. This is what Jesus is getting at when he said “Love your neighbor as yourself”. That was a radical idea back in Jesus’ day and it’s just as crazy today.
The Jews and Samaritans hated each other. They did everything they could to avoid each other. There was no respect given. This is why the story Jesus told is so significant.
The Samaritan broke the rules he was taught about who deserves love and respect and showed love and respect to this Jewish man.
He gave respect freely.
He didn’t fall into the traps that many of us fall into when it comes to respect.
You see, lots of people give respect so that they can get respect in return. Or, they’ll treat others well if they get treated well first. However, Jesus doesn’t put any conditions on respect.
Give respect freely.
Who have you been withholding respect from that you need to show respect to?

About this Plan
Everyone has different opinions and they like to make them known. It’s okay to debate with others and challenge each other’s thinking, but there’s one thing that is not up for debate: respect. What is respect? And who’s rules are you playing by when it comes to love and respect? God’s or the world’s?
