Up For Debate

DAY 4 OF 5

Sometimes the hardest people to show respect to are the ones in your own home. You might show respect to everyone else, but then you get home and argue and fight with parents, give them attitude, or just ignore them.

You might say, “You don’t know my parents. They don’t deserve respect.” You’re right, I don’t know your parents. But I do know this: no parent is perfect.

Every parent makes mistakes. Every parent has moments. Every parent gets annoying. Every parent has moments where they might embarrass you.

But that’s not an excuse to not show them honor and respect.

This is something so important that when God gave his people the 10 commandments to live by, this made the list. God could have chosen anything and on that list he put honor your parents

Here are some easy ways to show respect to parents:

When they tell you to do something, do it.

Don’t argue or complain.

Put down your phone and spend time with them.

Listen to them.

Help out around the house.

Speak well of them (no matter who you’re with)

Show interest in them (talk to them, ask them about their life, go to them for advice, etc)

Choose something from this list or come up with something on your own and practice showing respect to your parents today.

About this Plan

Up For Debate

Everyone has different opinions and they like to make them known. It’s okay to debate with others and challenge each other’s thinking, but there’s one thing that is not up for debate: respect. What is respect? And who’s rules are you playing by when it comes to love and respect? God’s or the world’s?
