Hallowed Be Thy Name

DAY 11 OF 21

Jehovah Shalom: The Lord is Peace

Isaiah 9:6 And his name shall be called …  the Prince of Peace … .

There is a peace or shalom that comes from knowing God and His Son, who is the Prince of Peace. This is a peace that the world cannot give, nor can it attain. Shalom is completeness, a soundness of soul and spirit, that comes from living in harmony with God. Shalom is a condition of the inner man and is not related to his outer circumstances.

Judges 6:23-24 Then the Lord said to him, “Peace be with you, do not fear, you shall not die.” So Gideon built an altar there to the Lord and called it- The Lord is Peace

Israel was living in the Promised land but not enjoying the promised blessings because of their disobedience to God. They were being oppressed by the enemy. The land was ravaged, people were living in caves and Gideon, the to-be deliverer was himself hiding from the enemy.

To Gideon’s many questions as to why their condition was so, God’s answer was peace. Hence the name- Jehovah Shalom: the Lord is Peace.

In the midst of turmoil and chaos, God reminds us that only He gives true peace. Shalom is found only in our relationship with God.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you: not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Jesus came to bring peace between God and man and to restore what sin had separated. No matter how turbulent our world becomes, we can be at peace because of Him.

♥ Response: Lord, for all my questions, Your answer is peace. You call me to trust You in every situation. My greatest joy is that I am at peace with You through Jesus, at peace with myself and at peace with others. In Jesus’ name.
