Baruch rewrites the scroll with God pronouncing punishment on Jehoiakim. God will punish evil everywhere. The Rechabites come into Jerusalem for safety and God approves them for faithfully keeping their covenant. In comparison Judah is a faulty pot to be smashed. Pashhur, the chief temple officer has Jeremiah lashed with 40 lashes across the feet and is put in stocks. Jeremiah fearfully pronounces God’s judgment of ‘terror on every side’.
