DAY 5 OF 6

Addiction is  a word we don’t like talking about. You might joke about it, but it eats at you from the inside. It’s almost impossible to list all of the things that you can be addicted to. Chances are the device that you are looking at this very moment is something that you may be addicted to. However big or small it catches up with you. Addiction can cause hurt, not just in your life, but in the lives of those around you.

Let’s take a minute and break down what addiction is. By definition, addiction is a brain disorder characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli despite adverse consequences. Sadly 1 in 7 will face some sort of drug abuse. In 2017, a whopping 29% of people ages 18 to 24 admitted to being addicted to social media. One out of three men between the ages of 18 -30 admit to being addicted to pornography. From Facebook to pornography to prescription medications, the temptation to fall into addiction is there.

1st Corinthians 6:12 says "I have the right to do anything," you say—but not everything is beneficial. "I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.

Paul is stating that just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should.  So the question arises, what now? Where do I go from here? Simple. Turn to God.

James 5:16 says “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

It may be embarrassing, it may be awkward, but admitting you have a problem is the first step. There is nothing wrong with saying to a fellow brother or sister in Christ “I need help”. More importantly. Turn to God. He’s your father, He wants what is best for you.

About this Plan

FortLife

Are we living the FortLife or the FreeLife? There are spiritual strongholds (which we're calling forts) that battle within every one of us: pride, anger, addiction, lies, and more. For this youth plan, we'll talk about what it means to break down the forts and turn our hearts to God and living the FreeLife!
