Investing Into The Next Generation

As a pastor, it’s interesting to watch how people behave as they get older. I see so many Christians who used to sit up front and be the most active in worship, slowly move to the very back of the church auditorium.

Sometimes I’ll even walk up to them and say, “You used to be in the front row, but now you’re in the back. What happened?”

“Oh, Pastor,” they’ll often say, “I’m old now, so I let the younger people sit up front.”

That’s when I tell them how important it is for those young people to see them as leaders. It’s crucial that they connect with them in worship, mentor them, and help develop them into the leaders of tomorrow.

The generational gap is so significant in our present times… more than ever in the history of our world. We have an urgent need for adult leaders who will answer the call of God to mentor and disciple younger leaders; to declare His power “to the next generation” (Ps. 71:18). We have to bridge the gap!

The Bible tells us that the glory of youth is in their strength (Prov. 20:29). They are passionate. Full of enthusiasm and drive. But they need guidance from the wisdom that comes with age and experience in the kingdom and presence of God.

Don’t ever think you’re not relevant enough to connect with the younger generation. Find someone you can pour into on a regular basis, and experience the reward of investing in the leaders of tomorrow!

Prayer for the day:

Pray that God will bring you someone you can invest in to affect the next generation powerfully for Christ! And pray for the wisdom to guide and mentor this youth into his or her own intimate relationship with God.
