Every Nation Faith City - Letters From LockdownSample
Day 2 - Towards The Goal
We all have goals we want to achieve. It can be cultivating relationships, maintaining fitness goals, or attaining good academic scores, all these are good, but our primary goal as Christians is Christ.
The Apostle Paul writes a letter to the church in Philippi about pressing towards this goal- Christ, with conviction, joy, and confidence, so that when we read the scripture, an expectant hope stirs up.
This season has placed many dreams on lockdown, the church's physical doors closed, and amid crisis, a divine appointment was scheduled for each one of us.
Philippians 3:12 (New Living Translation)
I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.
Imitating Christ is not just with action but with like-mindedness. "Be transformed by the renewal of the mind." The word of God does not serve to change the outer part of who we are but transforms us from the inside out. The more we pursue Christ- Learning from him, living for him- the more we become like him.
We can learn something from Paul's attitude and response. The key to pressing forward towards Christ is to fix our eyes on him and focus on what is ahead.
The most famous portion of scripture from this book comes from Philippians 4:13, but the context of the scripture is often forgotten. Paul is writing this from lockdown and reminds the church in the verse just before that he has learned the secret to truly being content, in little and much!
It is only in Christ that we are redeemed and made whole; therefore, let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us.
Prayer:
May I set my eyes on what is true, noble, right, and pure. Whatever is lovely and admirable, excellent and praiseworthy - Let this be the things I think of, may the peace of God be with us.
In Jesus Name
Amen
About this Plan
We all find ourselves in some state of life, emotional or spiritual, under lockdown. The Apostle Paul writes letters while being "locked-down" himself to encourage the church amid crisis. His imprisonment doesn't hinder him from preaching the gospel. We'll be looking at the books of Philippians, Philemon, and Colossians in this 5-day devotional study.
