Reality Check Kids

DAY 19 OF 21

If any parent can pick a verse he wants his child to read, it will be this one!! LOL. This verse has two very important parts. The first part is fairly straight forward: Listen to your parents and obey. Have you ever wondered why God put you in a family? Why couldn’t people be like trees or things in nature, living on their own? We sometimes find it hard to obey our parents. Sometimes it feels like they want to keep you from having fun.  Think of this for a moment however... think of a lioness and her cubs.  Why does she teach them? Why is she taking them out to hunt and teaching them the order in the pride? (The male eats first and then the lionesses and then the cubs.) Why is she letting them play for a while and then carries them back to the pride, close to the others?  Even though she is an animal, she knows that she has to prepare them for the world...for their future. She has to protect them from danger until they are strong enough to protect themselves.  One of them will be the new leader, some of them will be lionesses in the pride and some will form their own pride.

Our parents are God's representatives on earth.  God chose them to prepare us for our future.   Certain rules and boundaries prepare us and teach us the way of life.  We obey our parents because they were put in our lives by God and we obey because when we do, we please God...and isn't that our nr 1 goal in life?

YayDay. Today's activity is focused on your parents!! If you have a sibling, involve them.  If you are on your own, make your own plan.  Plan to surprise your parents with a cup of coffee or tea or a snack within the next 24 hours.  The purpose is to spoil and to thank.  Hopefully, they'll ask you "why" they are so lucky to be spoiled.  You can answer by saying something like: I am just thankful that God put you in my life"

Then... when you are alone, get on your knees and thank God for them, even though they are not perfect
