Preeminence… what a huge word!! Paul is talking about Jesus and he is trying to find words to describe just how important HE is. He uses the word "preeminent." Just as it would take me 100 words to describe this huge word, Paul is realizing that it would take 100 words to explain HOW IMPORTANT JESUS IS. He is the be-all and end all; He is beginning and end; He is the image of God and firstborn of creation.
I like to say, if you miss Jesus, then you miss everything. If you miss Jesus, you don’t really see anything. Paul is saying: Jesus was first and without Jesus, nothing can exist. My brain wants to break when I read these 3 verses. I think Paul felt the same way. He knew that who GOD IS is too big for our brain to understand. His goodness, justness, superiority, sovereignty, love, almighty, vastness… therefore he is saying: Just look at Jesus. Jesus is God! Jesus is most important. Jesus created everything and Jesus maintains creation. Without Jesus, everything would breaks. Even our relationship with God the Father cannot exist without Jesus.
I read these 3 verses and I think Jesus is most important. When I feel confused, just look at Jesus. If you feel lost, just look at Jesus. When you look at things around you and it looks crazy, just remember that Jesus is in control. Just look at Jesus
Today is WitnessDay. Witness means to give facts about something. For your first WitnessDay, go to anybody and ask them their favourite thing to watch in creation. Listen attentively. Now ask them if you can tell them your favourite part. It can be anything – watching a horse run, watching the clouds roll, and watching a wave on the beach-- anything you like.
Prayer:
Why don’t you sit with your parents and thank God for your favourite part of creation and that Jesus was part of it all?
