DAY 5 OF 21

Paul is getting really excited here. He is in jail – actually no physical reason to be excited! However, while he is probably sitting between mice, disgusting dirt, wetness, darkness, and creepy crawlers with a body bruised by wounds where the soldiers hit him, hungry and in smelly surroundings, he is telling the church that it is all worth it. What is he saying? He is saying: “Guys, if I knew that soldiers would catch me, hit me, treat me terrible and throw me in a disgusting jail because I tell you about the wonderful news of Jesus, I would do it all over again. Hearing that you love one another and that you keep on telling people about Jesus, makes it ok. Actually, it gives me JOY!”

Paul writes a letter to his friends, reminding them of the True Story of Jesus. He is encouraging them to not believe others if they try to convince them that the story isn’t true.

Today is YayDay – write a secret letter

For your activity, you are going to write a note of encouragement. Take a piece of paper and write a short note of encouragement to one of your family members. The fun part is that you will write the note in invisible ink (explained under the bullet with the same name) Start with these words:

“I feel proud when you…”

“I thank God when you…”

…and complete the note by filling in your own words. For example write to Mom saying: “I thank God when you help me every day.”

§ Invisible Ink

What you'll need:

§ Half a lemon

§ Water

§ Spoon

§ Bowl

§ Cotton bud

§ White paper

§ Lamp or other light bulb

Squeeze some lemon juice into the bowl and add a few drops of water. Mix the water and lemon juice with the spoon. Dip the cotton bud into the mixture and write a message onto the white paper. Wait for the juice to dry so it becomes completely invisible. When you are ready to read your secret message or show it to someone else, heat the paper by holding it close to a light bulb
