DAY 15 OF 28

Follow the leader

Have you ever played the game ‘Simon Says’? If you're not familiar with this game, effectively one person gives instructions like ‘Simon says, place your right hand on your head' and everyone follows the leader’s instructions. It seems easy enough until you realise the instructor is trying to trick you into performing an instruction without saying 'Simon says'. If a player does an instruction without hearing ‘Simon says’ or does something other than the instruction, they're out. It’s a fun kids game, but there’s an important leadership lesson hidden within.

When it comes to the Holy Spirit, although He doesn’t say ‘Simon Says...’ one of His roles is to lead you closer to the plan God has for you [John 16:33]. The Holy Spirit does this sometimes through a feeling, a sense, spontaneous flowing thoughts [John 16:13], or speaking through other people.

But how do you know what’s the Holy Spirit prompting, what’s your thoughts, and what’s the enemy’s voice? Well, the Holy Spirit will only speak in a way that aligns with the Bible [John 16:13], So how do I keep getting better at identifying The Holy Spirit’s voice...? Well, there's two parts...

  • The first is, spend time reading the Bible. As you understand God's character, actions, you'll understand how He works. This will help you with identifying the Holy Spirit and when He speaks.
  • The second part is through spending time with the Holy Spirit. When a child is lost at the shops, what do they do? They yell out 'Mum'. But how does the child know which voice is their mum's, when the sound of their Mothers voice calling out. It’s because they spend time with their mum and know the tone of her voice.

Like the child in the shop, we need to understand the tone of a Holy Spirit prompting.

PRAYER

Jesus, thank You that You sent the Holy Spirit to be with me. Help me to identify the Holy Spirit's voice, prompting me in my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
