Devotions From John's Gospel

DAY 15 OF 17

Does verse 25 seem to be the concluding statement of the teaching of Jesus? We know Jesus continues to speak. He speaks to us even today. The teaching of Jesus is not a conclusively written, closed, and sealed document. It has been a dynamic, lively, and empowering, and ever-growing word touching people’s lives down the centuries. It is the Holy Spirit, the Counselor who continues the teaching of Christ in a new way. As a “REMEMBRENCER”, He relates all new understanding of Christian responsibility to the teaching of Jesus and validates them as part of the teaching of Jesus. He is the dynamic interpreter of our life situations to the standards of Christ’s teaching. He is also the one who reveals to us antichristian practices and heretic interpretations in our churches today. (Note: Second Paraclete saying: Holy Spirit-“ the spirit of teaching”)

Dear sister, brother, Do you think the teaching of Jesus is outdated?

Who transforms the teaching of Jesus to be relevant to our times?

Why does Jesus say His peace is “out of the world peace?”

What does "a heart that is troubled and afraid" mean? What will you do if yours is?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I thank you for the remembrancer’s work of making your teaching dynamically meaningful to me every day. Sometimes I am afraid I do not measure up to your expectation. Help me, Jesus!

Jesus might say…..

My child, You just said the sweetest short prayer: “Help me, Jesus!” I shall help you in two ways: One, with me, there is neither expectation nor condemnation – just love. And two, Receive from me all the help you need to follow the guidance of the Spirit. Lean on me heavily when the journey gets tough.
