Becoming Like Jesus: Scripture Memorization

DAY 12 OF 35

Called by God

Pray…

God, you are so kind to me. Remind me of all the ways you’ve shown up in my life. Thank you for Jesus and for inviting me to be a part of your Kingdom. I want to live for you. Help me become the kind of person that can bring your good news to others. Show me where I can bring light to dark places and healing to broken things. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Read…

This is what God the Lord says— the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it: “I, the Lord , have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.” Isaiah 42:5-7 NIV

Consider…

The Creator of the universe has called you by name and taken you by the hand to lead you into His kingdom. The God of everything has invited us into a divine partnership with Him. He wants us to work alongside Him as He opens the eyes of the blind, frees people from the bondage of sin and rescues those who are trapped in darkness.

What small thing might God be inviting you to do to help Him put our broken world back together? Maybe it’s being kind to a stranger, doing chores around the house. volunteering at a nonprofit, giving money to charity, or even making a piece of art that will inspire someone else. Ask God to show you something you could do today to partner with Him.

Practice…

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.1 Peter 2:9-10 NIV

Read over these verses a few times out loud. Then, do your best to recite these words without looking. See how close you got. If it was pretty close, try it a few more times and see if you can get it just right! If it wasn’t close, try breaking it down into tiny chunks. Repeat those chunks a few times before moving onto the next one. Then, to cap it all off, write the passage down word for word to finish on a strong note.

Listen…

Set a timer for five minutes.

Find a quiet place and get alone with God. Maybe it’s outside, in your bedroom, or in your car. Just be still and listen to what God may be saying to you.

Ask Him to speak.

When you get distracted from your listening, come back to Jesus by meditating on your memory verse. Ask the Holy Spirit to change you to look more like Jesus today.

About this Plan

Becoming Like Jesus: Scripture Memorization

In part 4 of Becoming Like Jesus, we are going to explore what it looks like and why it matters to internalize truth. We are going to let God’s Word do what it’s meant to: transform us from the inside out. And there’s no better place to start than with the core who we are, letting His truth shape our identity.
