The Gospels – Messiah

DAY 6 OF 15

The Gospels tell us about Jesus, His time here on earth as a man dwelling among us, His miracles, and most importantly, He is the Messiah. What does the word Messiah mean?

The word “Messiah” comes from a Hebrew word that means “anointed” or “chosen one.”

Throughout the Bible, we read about God anointing people with oil to set them apart for a special purpose. Kings, priests, and prophets would be anointed and set apart to serve God. Jesus was the ultimate King, Priest, and Prophet. He is the King of kings with authority over all.

The same word for “Messiah” in the Greek language is “Christos.” This is where we get the English word “Christ” from.

Jesus Christ was God’s anointed, chosen one, set apart for a special purpose - to be our Saviour. Jesus came to earth to make a way for us to be saved from sin. Sin separates us from God, but through Jesus, we can have a relationship with God, our Heavenly Father. Jesus is our Messiah, set apart to do what only He could do. He lived a perfect life without sin but took on the punishment for our sins so we could be forgiven.
