Too Scared to Ask - Real Questions & Real Answer

DAY 15 OF 15

The New Covenant

Reflect

I know the Scripture for today isn’t in Exodus. We are talking about the new covenant today, and mostly that took place in the New Testament, but it was first mentioned in Jeremiah. God spoke of a new covenant with His people. This time, everyone who believes in Him falls under this covenant because there are no more animal sacrifices and there is no building or structure for the Holy Spirit. Instead, God’s Spirit would be in His people.

So what is the new covenant? Jesus spoke about the new covenant during the last supper. He explained that His body being broken and His blood poured out as a sacrifice was like God’s signature on the new covenant. This means we have an eternal sacrifice, and our sins are forgiven because of the sacrifice Jesus made for us. And what about the Holy Spirit? Does He still reside in a room behind a curtain only to be visited once a year by one man? Nope! That is one of the coolest parts of the new covenant; the Holy Spirit lives in us. When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to live in your heart and is with you always. You are never forgotten or abandoned; God walks with you and guides your path.

Respond

After you've read the passage today grab a journal or open your notes. Take some time to reflect on today’s reading. Use the SOAP acronym to help you engage. (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer).

  • Scripture - What did you read?
  • Observation - What did you learn?
  • Application - What will you do?
  • Prayer - Write out a prayer talking to God like a friend.

A Chance at New Life

Have you opted into the new covenant? It is yours if you want it. If you are thinking about what it means to invite the Holy Spirit to live in your heart, talk to a pastor at your church or a trusted friend. What are you waiting for?

Thanks for completing this reading plan! We pray that this helped you get connected to Jesus. We would love to hear from you on how God used this plan in your life. Keep the conversation going by emailing us at keeptalking@secc.org
