You Are Created For...Sample
GENESIS 1:26A, 2:7,8,15
Psychologist Erikson, known for his work on human developmental psychology, said: "Man has to teach." He says if you decide not to grow for the rest of your life and just focus on yourself, "What can I produce? What can I contribute?"
This is the fertile ground for many of our mental health challenges. You need it. I think it's something that the book of Genesis tells us about how God made us. We are made for an I-Thou relationship, to go deeper into life. We are made for an I-You relationship, to move closer to each other. We are made for an I-It relationship to live our lives beyond ourselves. And if one of these dimensions is missing, a big aspect of your life is missing. Even if you have a relationship with the Lord, it's not enough. You have to share your life deeply with other people. And that's still not enough. You have to do something with your life. You have to accomplish something with your life.
Here is the invitation today - to look. It is one of the first commands that the Lord gave to man after creating him. Look! Look! At what? Well, first of all, up. You are made. Genesis says, "Let us make man in our image."
That's what God said.
God says "Us" - The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit have a community. They talk to each other and they have a bond between them. And that bond can only be described and best described in one word - love. God is love. From that interaction, from that community, the idea of creation existed. Everything that is made comes out of love.
Think for a moment about this - if that is the image of God, in your deepest essence you are love, you have the capacity to love, you have in you a longing like God's to create and accomplish.
God did not create because He was lonely. God did not create because He had a need. God created because He had a desire, because He wants to give and share love. That is the deepest essence of your humanity. God is creative. We are creative. Just as He wants to bring order out of chaos, we want to do the same with everything we do. A hairdresser, a nurse who cares, a teacher who teaches - whatever we do, an accountant - is to bring clarity out of confusion, to bring order, and to do something. That is creativity and creation.
About this Plan
Life is about relationships. We are created to live in relationship with Him (Me - Thou), Others (Me - You) & the World (Me - It). Therefore, we want to go deeper into God, closer to each other, and further in our world.
