Real Hope: Character of GodSample
God Is Self-Sufficient
I often hear the goal of ‘financial freedom’, usually as part of a pitch for a particular program or network marketing venture. There’s something quite attractive about the idea of not being reliant upon anyone, to be able to live the life you want and how you want. It’s interesting to note that the financial freedom that many are building is quite dependent on those below them continuing to buy and sell and finding more people to sign up to buy and sell!
The words of Acts 17:25 carry profound implications for us. God is self-sufficient and doesn’t need us to keep the universe going. This should be a significant source of comfort and assurance for us! Knowing that God requires nothing from us means that our relationship with Him is not rooted in our ability to provide for Him, but in His boundless love and grace. We can and should approach God with humility and gratitude, rather than fear of inadequacy.
God’s self-sufficiency also promotes trust in His providence. Since He is not dependent on our efforts, we can rely on Him for all our needs, both physical and spiritual. God is fully capable of sustaining us and meeting our deepest desires. Furthermore, God’s self-sufficiency underscores the value of worship and obedience. It reminds us that we serve a God who is not motivated by self-interest but by His love for us.
Let us approach God with humility and gratitude, relying on His providence, and engaging in worship and obedience that stems from love rather than mere duty.
