Acts in 28 DaysSample
Have you ever had one of those moments where God has just felt so close? Where the only thing you want to do is to sit at His feet and never leave, and your heart keeps singing praise to the only one who is worthy? Have you ever had a mountain top moment where God feels as near as your very breath? Those are moments that can mark our faith journeys and inspire action or change.
We see this same thirst in the life of Moses. He eagerly sought the Lord and met with Him face to face. Through these times of fellowship, God directed him and, through him, the people of Israel. In fact, it was so obvious that Moses had been talking to God that his face even changed, and it started to glow! What an incredible sign and testimony to the Israelites that Moses truly had been meeting with God (Exodus 34:29,34-35)!
In Acts 6, we are introduced to Stephen, “a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit”. He was an early church leader who preached the gospel, performed miracles, and was put in charge of caring for the needy through the food distribution program. We learn later that he also became the first martyr.
Because of the Holy Spirit, Stephen spoke with such wisdom and power that the religious leaders got very angry with him. They wanted rid of him, but they could not catch him doing wrong. Finally, they resorted to paying some people to lie about Stephen so he could be brought before the Council.
It was then, in this hour of great need, that Stephen’s face began to glow and became as bright as an angel’s! Just like Moses, Stephen was in a deep personal relationship with God, and it was God himself who empowered Stephen to boldly testify and proclaim the truth.
How incredible that the God of Moses, and the God of Stephen, is our God too!
Thank you, God, for wanting to be so near to us.
GO DEEP
Spend some time simply sitting in God’s presence and trying to listen to His voice. Thank Him that He is a living God, and we can have a close relationship with Him.
BE BOLD
Reach out to another follower of Jesus, or to your small group, and spend some time praying together. Worship God and pray for each other.
MEMORISE IT
