DAY 21 OF 28

WEEK 3, DAY 7—COMMUNITY

Community is important! Right before God created the first woman (Eve) after creating the first man (Adam), he said “it is not good for man to be alone.” From the very beginning of humanity, we have been designed for community—that just means to have people around us.

Having the right circle of people around you is important! The right people can encourage you in your walk with God, give you the truth when you need it, and support you in your weakness. The wrong people, on the other hand, can push you away from God, tell you what you want to hear but not what you need to hear, and make life tougher for you. It’s important to check your circle and to make changes when needed.

One of the best ways to have a healthy community around you is by involving yourself at youth and church! Any church community is not perfect, but it’s a great place for you to grow. Coming to youth or church is more than coming to a fun event or social club; it’s a community to belong to. We see in the life of Jesus and his disciples that he didn’t just have a once-a-week gathering with them; he did life together with them!

Through community, you also get something called “accountability.” Accountability is when people hold you to a higher standard. The wrong friends will drag you down to a lower standard, but the right people always call you up!
