DAY 22 OF 28

WEEK 4—MY PURPOSE & CALLING

DAY 1—PROGRESS OVER PERFECTION

As much as it’s nice to think about the journey of following Jesus as a rollercoaster that always goes up and never comes down, it’s full of twists, turns, and surprises. We go through different seasons in life, and the things that we struggle with and learn from in one season will be different from the next. The things that you learn about God when you’re 12 will be different from what you learn about God when you’re 52.

The goal is never perfection, because we are imperfect, and so perfection is impossible. The goal is PROGRESS! The goal is to be constantly growing in your relationship with God. There might be times when you feel like you take two steps forward and one step back, but that’s still one step forward.

Over time, as you follow Jesus, one of the things you’ll have to fight is familiarity. It happens with the people closest to us—our families, and if you get married one day, you’ll face the same struggle with your future spouse. The reality is that the more you know someone and the closer you get to them, the more likely you are to take them for granted. That’s why it’s important to always fuel your passion for God by being consistent and having daily habits, rhythms, and disciplines of reading his Word, praying, and worshipping. Having these things in place means even when your emotions don’t want to do these things, you’ll still be making progress.

Growing your relationship with God is a choice and a commitment. It won’t always be easy building spiritual habits, but it’s what will keep your fire for God alive and burning no matter what season you’re in.
