Who is this Man?

Who is this Man? That question echoes throughout this episode of The Chosen, and throughout the Gospels. People with various backgrounds and motives wrestle with who Jesus really is. Ultimately, every follower of Jesus must answer the same question.

Quintus

The Roman commander wants to know whether Jesus is a threat. His concern is power, order, and protecting his position. He seeks answers because he wants to feel safe.

Atticus

The undercover Roman agent watches Jesus carefully, and he is fascinated by what he sees. Curiosity drives him to figure out what kind of man Jesus is. His search is not based on fear, but on intrigue.

Shmuel

Shmuel is zealous for the law – disciplined and deeply committed to truth as he understands it. He wants to know who Jesus is because Jesus challenges his categories. If Jesus is truly from God, then everything Shmuel knows must shift. His question is rooted in defending his worldview.

The disciples

They walk with Jesus daily, see His miracles, hear His voice… and still don’t fully understand Him. When Jesus calms the storm, their reaction is raw and honest: “Who is this? Even the wind and waves obey him!” They are close to the answer, yet still learning.

All of these characters ask the same question, but from very different places. And today, the question comes to you. Who do you think Jesus is?

You may approach Him like Quintus, seeking safety; like Atticus, drawn by curiosity; like Shmuel, seeking to reinforce his own ideas; or like the disciples, walking with Him while still carrying questions.

The full answer may take a lifetime to grasp — but staying close to Jesus is how understanding grows. The more you walk with Him, the more the pieces fall into place. And as you discover who He is, you discover who you are meant to become.

Prayer

Lord, You invite me to come and see. Help me draw close, learn Your heart, and understand more of who You are. Teach me as I follow You. Amen.
